The Copper Box Arena was built for the London 2012 Olympics. Located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is a 7,000-seat multi-sport venue previously known as the Handball Arena.
Inline design was proud to be awarded the £2.2m fast-track fit-out contract for this high profile, world-class sports facility.
This project included:
- Installation of a Junckers New Era Uni-Bat specialist sprung sports floor to the main arena to create a high-performance surface for Olympic-level competition.
- Extensive suspended ceilings and Hunter Douglas feature ceilings to provide a high level of acoustic performance and architectural design
- Highly durable resin flooring to the circulation and service areas.
- Extensive carpentry and specialist joinery
- Installation of IPS and vanity systems suitable for high capacity facilities
- A wide range of internal finishes, including painting and decorating, carpet and vinyl flooring, plastering, and ceramic tiling to create robust and high-quality finishes throughout the venue.
Project Challenges
Technical complexity: This involve co-ordinating multiple high performance flooring, ceiling, and joinery packages in line with stringent sporting standards and specifications.
Fastrack programme: It was a significant challenge to delivering a fit-out contract of this scale just eight months ahead of the Olympic games.
Quality standards: The facilities had to meet strict international standards for Olympic use whilst ensuring long-term durability for multiple sports and to become a legacy project for community use.
Site constraints: We had to work on a high-profile Olympic site and meet strict security and logistical requirements.
